The destiny of Fabian Kazmierski
When going through old archives I stumbeled upon the records of the man called Fabian Kazmierski,
a Polish farmer involved in the conflicts during the first world war. The only remaining evidence
that he has ever existed is a letter written by an anonymous man who claimed to have met him in the
woodlands in Ukraine sometime in the 1910:s.
In the letter a story is retold about Fabian, who according to the source woke up in the middle of
the night by a unfamiliar sound from the sky. He left the house where he was staying and started to
move by foot to the west. Fabian tells that he felt like a huge army was hunting him, both from
the sky and on the ground. The hunt continued the next day, and night. Eventually he reached a point
where he was so tired that his legs wouldnґt bear him any longer. He hid in a shelter and the
followers passed by. The next day the exhausted man met the letter writer in a field and told him his story.
No traces of an army could be seen, nor any reports of flying objects in the night.
The next day a dead unidentified body was found corresponding to the description the letter writer
made of Fabian Kazmierski, but an officer in the army denied that any man with that name had ever
been in that area.
Still today we do not know wether Fabian Kazmierski really did get escape from something that night,
or if he has ever existed. He could have made up his name, and a story, in order to run from
the military services, or by some other reason. He may also be made up by the anonymous letter writer.
But why – if it is an untrue story – would someone make up something like that?
